Bride and Groom

Phil wrote, “Sue and I met at the mailbox in front of our row of townhouses during my Pentagon tour. We courted while playing tennis—pun intended! She was, and still is, a much better player. I was baptized in the Presbyterian church, while Sue’s family is Lutheran. This difference threatened our wedding plans when Sue’s pastor and I did not immediately agree on the doctrine of transubstantiation. Nevertheless, and by the grace of God, he married us. Sue set aside her 10-year legal career to join my Navy adventure in Naples, Italy, where the status of forces agreement prevented her employment, and Jennifer was born. Claire was born 15 months later in Rota, Spain. Sue resumed her career by teaching law to U.S. military students in Rota and serving as a research attorney at Stanford University’s law school before resuming full-time employment in London’s financial district. Her experiences during the 2008 banking crisis opened my eyes to the critical roles that financial regulations and enforcement play in the international system. We raised our family in the evangelical wing of the Church of England, where our girls were enriched with vibrant religious discourse and amazing friends. Sue is currently employed as a senior attorney in an American global travel technology company and serves as a voluntary advisor for Valpariso University, her alma mater in Indiana. Our girls are now faithful and confident young women making their way in the world.”*
