DEMOCRATIC CANDIDATE FOR CONGRESS PHIL EHR SUPPORTS CUSTOMARY USE AND WILL SPONSOR FEDERAL LEGISLATION TO PROTECT PUBLIC BEACH ACCESS IF ELECTED

Retired Navy Commander Phil Ehr is running to replace Matt Gaetz in Florida’s 1st Congressional District- which covers Escambia, Santa Rosa, Okaloosa, Walton, and Holmes counties

Pensacola, FL - Democratic candidate Phil Ehr recognizes that the public’s right to beach recreation is at risk from Flora-bama to Camp Helen and beyond. No trespassing signs, beach chair walls and some homeowners are tainting our beautiful beaches with discord, barriers and flawed legal arguments. The increasingly confrontational situation threatens our heritage and economic prosperity. Phil Ehr stands with the vast majority of coastal residents, small business owners and real estate agents who want to maintain our open and welcoming Emerald Coast beaches.

“Everyone ought to have access to sunbathe, walk, fish, surf and otherwise enjoy Florida beaches,” Phil explained. “My legislative agenda includes federal protection for customary use of America’s beaches, with minimal access exceptions for public safety, federal and state parks, military bases and ranges.”

Phil will demonstrate support for customary use with Dr. Carolynn Zonia, Democratic candidate for Walton’s Board of County Commissioners, at 10:30 AM on July 1st at Walton County’s Santa Clara Florida Public Access #17. See “Dr. Carolynn Zonia for Walton County” on Facebook.

Phil will also attend “Stand Your Sand 2019” event organized by Florida Beaches for All at 11:30 to 12:30 on July 1st at Walton County’s Ed Walline access in support of Customary Use. Phil joins the organizers in encouraging the public to link hands for ten minutes at noon to “embrace and celebrate our Walton County beaches—beaches we have shared for centuries.” See “Florida Beaches for All” on Facebook.

Phil also welcomes the public to join him and Dr. Zonia on a 2.5-mile beach walk on Wednesday, July 3rd from the Miramar Beach access to the Sandestin Hilton. The walk will begin no later than 7am.
